Davis Family Reunion

We just pulled into Sacramento, California Monday night and are finally with Twila, thank the Lord! The last couple days have been trying to say the least, but God is faithful. We had to pay a few hundred dollars that we were not expecting to have to pay to leave the Dominican Republic because of changes in exoneration laws for missionaries. They asked for $415 US for each of the kids and $100 US for me. We all just cried (literally) because we did not have the cash to pay the fee and it was Sunday so no way to get it. They told us that we could not leave and would have to wait until Monday, re-book our flights and pay the fee.

We all sat on the floor crying because we knew that we could not all go to see Twila, then both Shekinah and Isaac with tears rolling down their faces, in front of the D.R. customs officers said “dad you go, we will stay and pray, we will be alright”. So with tears running down my face I told the customs officer that the kids would be staying. It had been so long that we had been separated from Twila and we were all so excited that we would be going to be with her and then this. I pulled out my wallet to pay my customs fee and they literally grabbed it, looked inside and took everything I had in it. Then said go on, get your kids and get out of here, and passed us through.

When we finally got to N.Y. we missed our connecting flight to San Francisco so we had to stay the night in New York, where my back went out. The 6 hour flight the next day to S.F. was very painful but we made it.

In San Francisco we rented a car and drove up to Sacramento where Twila was. Just minutes after we got in we got a call from Twila’s Doctor saying that they are having some problems with the insurance company and will not be able to operate until final approval is given. We still don’t know when that will be. I have been on the phone with the insurance company and am still awaiting their call. I booked three days at a hotel to try and catch up on some rest and I’m hoping that we can talk to some friends of friends about possible living arrangements. It will be hard to make any decision until we hear from the insurance company and Twila’s doctor.

We are waiting and hoping that pledged funds will start coming in soon. I feel like this has all been too much for me, yet somehow, His grace is sufficient. I laid hands on Twila this morning and prayed that if it be His will that God would heal her. We are thankful for whatever He does and will be content with it. There is nothing in this world that we want but Him, only He can satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts. We don’t know what or why God is doing what He is doing, but I do feel we are living in a pivotal transitional time in our lives and History.

We are asking God to make the gospel and all its implications more vivid in our hearts and minds so that we can share it with those all around us. We are asking God for His anointing to proclaim the gospel. And we are asking God to bring us home (to the D.R.) so we can continue in the work that He started there. Please pray with us for His grace, His grace is always enough!

In His care,

Roderick Davis & Family
