Haiti Earthquake

[update: you can now donate to our Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund]

Dear T.E.A.R.S. Friends and Family,

Many of you have contacted us regarding the tragic earthquake that shook Haiti and the Dominican Republic yesterday.  We thank each of you for the outpouring of prayers and support.  We here in the Dominican Republic felt the rolling of the ground and swaying of the buildings.  I was just getting home from picking up the kids when it hit.   It felt like someone was jumping up and down on the bumper of our car.   Fey and Rosa our neighbors, already outside started yelling, “terremoto, terremoto” as the ground continued to move for a few more seconds. We thank God everyone here is  alright–but the same cannot be said for Haiti.  What we felt was nothing in light of the devastation that has taken place in the city of  Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
At this moment, I am sitting with the leader of our Haitian Ministry Outreach, Hector Julio, who tells me that many of the believers here are agonizing over the fate of  family and friends living in Port-au-Prince that are unaccounted for.   With the power outages, downed phone towers and shortages of fuel it will be extremely hard to know the full impact that this earthquake has had and will continue to have on the Haitian people.    Please earnestly pray for the Haitian people and our T.E.A.R.S. team as we look to offer assistance to our neighbors.

In His care,
Roderick Davis
Director of T.E.A.R.S. Ministries

  1. Sidney Says:

    Jonas 2 (Haitian Creole Version)

    Jonas 2

    1¶ Antan li te nan vant pwason an, Jonas lapriyè Seyè a, Bondye li a, li di:
    2Nan mizè mwen te ye a, Seyè, mwen te rele nan pye ou, ou te reponn mwen. Byen fon nan peyi kote mò yo ye a, mwen te mande ou sekou, ou te tande vwa mwen.
    3Ou te voye m’ jete byen fon, nan fon lanmè. Dlo te sènen m’ toupatou. Tout kouran dlo ak tout lanm lanmè yo te pase sou mwen.
    4Mwen t’ap di nan kè m’: Gen lè ou voye m’ jete byen lwen ou.
Men, Seyè, Bondye mwen, ou rale m’ soti nan twou a. Ou ban m’ lavi ankò.
    7Lè m’ santi mwen taprale vre, mwen vin chonje ou, Seyè! Mwen lapriyè nan pye ou. Kote ou chita nan tanp ki apa ou a, ou tande m’.
    8Moun k’ap sèvi zidòl ki pa vo anyen yo, se moun ki vire do bay Bondye ki bay favè a.
    9Men, m’ap chante pou m’ fè lwanj ou, m’a ofri bèt pou yo touye pou ou. M’a kenbe angajman mwen te pran an. Se Seyè a ki delivrans nou.
    10¶ Lè sa a, Seyè a bay pwason an lòd pou li vonmi Jonas sou rivaj lanmè a.

    —————-

    1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 2 He said:
    “In my distress I called to the LORD,
    and he answered me.
    From the depths of the grave [a] I called for help,
    and you listened to my cry.
    3 You hurled me into the deep,
    into the very heart of the seas,
    and the currents swirled about me;
    all your waves and breakers
    swept over me.
    4 I said, ‘I have been banished
    from your sight;
    yet I will look again
    toward your holy temple.’
    5 The engulfing waters threatened me, [b]
    the deep surrounded me;
    seaweed was wrapped around my head.
    6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
    the earth beneath barred me in forever.
    But you brought my life up from the pit,
    O LORD my God.
    7 “When my life was ebbing away,
    I remembered you, LORD,
    and my prayer rose to you,
    to your holy temple.
    8 “Those who cling to worthless idols
    forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
    9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving,
    will sacrifice to you.
    What I have vowed I will make good.
    Salvation comes from the LORD.”
    10 And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land
