E-Update | Haiti for Christ Ministries

We received the following update from Haiti for Christ Ministries and wanted to share it here.  Thank you for continuing to pray and partnering in supportive efforts.

Dear friend,
Haiti’s General Hospital has space for 700 patients, 1500 are there now.

Seventy volunteer doctors from around the world work 24/7 alongside seventy national doctors to treat earthquake survivors. More doctors arrive each day.

Prioritzed by urgency, triaged patients lay on the front lawn under plastic tents supported by branches.  Wounds are wrapped and marked, broken bones taped with directions, Haitians wait silently for their turn to see a doctor.

“We did not bring tetanus”
Today survivors’ injuries are seven days old. Gangrene has set in and sixty percent of patients will endure amputation.

At the Red Cross camp by the airport, a missionary pleads for bone saws and tetanus. The medical director refuses him the saws and says, “We did not bring tetanus, it requires refrigeration.” Reportedly amputations at makeshift clinics are performed with whatever is available.

Two fallen building flank a walk to the Hospital pharmacy, they reek of death. Masks or cloth to filter the odor is necessary.

Screaming children are prepared for surgery

Across from the National Stadium a human head lays in the street. The brutal message that looters will not be tolerated.  Looting is isolated and media misrepresentation has fostered vigilantism.

Inside the General Hospital screaming children are prepared for surgery.  Outside mothers cradle their sons and daughters, praising God they escaped Haiti’s earthquake alive. Prayer for the sick is welcomed and Haitian gratitude touching.

Yvonne and I have been working feverishly ministering to care givers, hurting Haitians and missionaries.  Each day we traverse the entire city helping where we are needed most. Our days are long and nights short. Haitians continue to be gentle, appreciative and grateful to be alive. Your prayers are felt and they are still needed.  Haiti’s recovery will take years and our commitment is for a life time.  Your financial support is needed and will show God’s mercy and love to Haitians.

Weeping with them that weep,

Joel and Yvonne Trimble
