Our goal at T.E.A.R.S. Dominican and Haitian schools is to use Christian Education to nurture the whole child as a distinctive and loved person. Christian education allows us to address the whole child- intellectual, emotional, physical, and spirituality thereby given the best opportunity to cultivate that child to success in every aspect of their lives. We also realize that a child’s achievement depends upon the parents and families of the children, as they are the child’s primary resource for education.
The basis for Christian Education is Christ, the gospel and His teachings . Our teaching staff strive through constant messages of love, grace and truth, to inspire and transform those we educate to seek Christ first and excellence secondly. Some of the core components of T.E.A.R.S. Schools Christian education are: Trust, Partnership, Courage, Recognition, Excellence, and Personal responsibility.
The Dominican Republic has the lowest investment in education in Latin America and the Caribbean with only 1.9 percent of its GDP invested in public education. Without sufficient funds being invested in school supplies and infrastructure, extracurricular activities, teacher/parent training and transportation to and from schools, Dominican children lack the resources needed for a proper Christian education. These deficiencies, among others, are very important conditions that affect enrollment, attendance levels, dropout rates, cognitive capacity of students, and graduation rates. Along with problems in education, children suffer significant and chronic health and nutrition problems. We at T.E.A.R.S. offer a solution to these problems by offering all of our students free medical treatment, a nutritional meal daily, extracurricular activity, and a way for each family to keep their dignity by working serving at the school to contribute to their children’s education.
